Sri Lanka had been on my bucket list for years. When I finally went, it exceeded every expectation — from the misty mountains of Ella to the ancient ruins of Sigiriya and the pristine beaches of the south coast.
Here is my complete 8-day itinerary to help you plan the perfect trip.
Day 1–2: Colombo
Arrive in Colombo and spend your first days exploring the bustling capital. Don’t miss the Pettah Market, Galle Face Green at sunset, and the colourful Gangaramaya Temple.
Day 3–4: Kandy
Head up to Kandy, the cultural heart of Sri Lanka. Visit the famous Temple of the Tooth Relic and take a scenic walk around Kandy Lake.
Day 5: Ella
Take the famous train ride through the tea country — one of the most scenic rail journeys in the world. Hike Little Adam’s Peak and catch sunrise over the valley.
Day 6–7: South Coast
Head south to Mirissa or Tangalle for powder-white beaches, whale watching (in season), and the best seafood you’ll eat anywhere.
Day 8: Galle
End your trip in the charming Dutch colonial town of Galle. Stroll the fort walls, browse the boutiques, and find a rooftop spot for a final sunset.
